Our family history has deep roots in the agricultural
industry. Sometime back in the 1800’s they took a 1-way ticket from far away
lands in the Canary Islands, northern Spain and western Africa to the Caribbean.
Facing the unknown, they pushed forward helping build and transform the coffee,
tobacco, and sugar industries for over three generations. Even today, our
grandfathers still remember the musky smell of the large warehouses where they
stripped tobacco leaves. This rich heritage has always been our main source of
inspiration; serving as a foundation and guiding our efforts.
Following in the steps of our forefathers, we also took a
leap of faith across the ocean and set sail for far-away lands. During the past
15 years we’ve worked as teachers, scientists, conservationists, and agriculturists
(among many other things) in amazing places, alongside some of the most authentic
people you could ever meet. Today we bring all of our gathered knowledge and experience
back to the most essential of human activities: farming.
That is why we founded Appalachian Greens.
Operating out of
our 7-acre family farm between the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and
the Shenandoah Valley in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, we use heirloom and non-GMO
varieties developed the old-fashioned way; by classic plant breeding. Our high-quality
shoots and microgreen varieties have been bred with flavor and nutrient density
in mind, providing you with more of both in each bite. All of our greens are
grown pesticide free in an enclosed environment and delivered the same day they’re
harvested. Our growing facility follows strict food safety standards and is
USDA GAP certified. We’ve even brought something with us from the tropics
(where we’re originally from and where the growing season never ends): our greens
are grown and harvested fresh, week after week, all year long and across all
seasons (even winter).
We’ll make sure to provide you with the most excellent greens
you’ve ever experienced.
